Members of Montreal’s Jewish community numbered among his patrons\, both for secular and ceremonial pieces. An Elijah Cup\, the fifth cup for a Passover Seder\, stands prominently as a masterwork of early Canadian Judaica. \nRoss Fox is a Research Associate\, Royal Ontario Museum (formerly curator for Canadian Decorative Arts\, retired); and Assistant Professor (Sessional Instructor)\, Department of Art History\, University of Toronto.
